Fishers Tooth Bonding
Small repairs that change how your smile reads
Chips, gaps, and worn edges, handled in one appointment
A chipped front tooth. A gap that has always bothered you. A tooth that looks shorter than the ones beside it. These are small things, but they are the things you notice in photos.
Fishers tooth bonding at Village Dental at Saxony uses tooth-colored composite resin to reshape and repair teeth, usually in a single visit, without removing healthy tooth structure. Bonding is one of the most conservative cosmetic options available. If you like your smile and want to correct one or two details, this is often the right place to start.
Common questions from patients
Does Fishers cosmetic bonding hurt?
Most bonding appointments do not require numbing at all. The resin is applied to the outside of the tooth, so there is usually nothing to drill and nothing to remove. If we’re also repairing decay or working close to the nerve, we will numb the area first and tell you before we start.
How long does a bonding appointment take?
Fishers tooth bonding is typically completed in one visit, often in well under an hour per tooth. The resin is shaped and hardened right in the chair, so there is no lab wait and no temporary to wear home.
Will the bonding match my other teeth?
Yes. Composite resin comes in a range of shades, and your dentist selects one against your natural tooth color before starting. The surface is then polished so it catches light the way enamel does.
How long does dental bonding last?
Most bonding lasts several years with good care. The exact lifespan depends on where the tooth sits in your bite and what it gets exposed to. A front tooth used to open packaging or bite fingernails will wear far faster than one that is not.
Can bonded teeth be whitened later?
No, composite resin does not lighten the way natural enamel does. If whitening is something you are considering, do it first and let the shade settle, then have the bonding matched to your new color. Doing it in the other order usually means redoing the bonding.
Does insurance cover dental bonding?
It depends on why it is being done. Bonding used to repair a chipped or decayed tooth is often covered at least in part, while bonding done purely to change appearance usually is not. Our team can check your benefits and give you an estimate before you commit to anything.
What bonding can fix
- Chipped or cracked front teeth
- Small gaps between teeth
- Teeth that look short, uneven, or worn down
- Stains and discoloration that whitening cannot lift
- Rough or jagged edges
- Exposed root surfaces where the gums have receded
- Small cavities in visible areas, using tooth-colored material instead of silver
Bonding also has real limits. It’s not the answer for a tooth that is badly broken, for grinding damage spread across the whole mouth, or for significant crowding. If bonding is the wrong tool for what you want fixed, we’ll say so.
What to expect at your bonding appointment
- A short exam to confirm the tooth is healthy and bonding is appropriate
- Shade selection against your natural teeth in good light
- Light surface conditioning so the resin adheres properly
- Layering and sculpting the composite directly on the tooth
- Curing each layer with a bonding light
- Checking your bite, then trimming and polishing to a natural finish
You can eat and drink normally when you leave. We usually suggest steering clear of coffee, tea, red wine, and other staining foods for the first couple of days while the surface fully settles.
